I'm Back!

Hello Blogland!

I have been away for many years and many things have changed. I am now a mom of 2 and am finishing my 2nd year of teaching high school. I haven't found many high school blogs and have been thinking about restarting this blog for that purpose. This way, other high school teachers will have a place to go for ideas and inspiration at the high school level.

For starters, I recently have become engrossed with planners and preparing for next year. One planner I have found is the teachers lesson planner by Erin Condren. They are a bit pricey, but I keep finding myself returning to create one to buy. All that's left is talking my husband into letting me get one :)

If you would like to win one, you can enter a competition a fellow blogger is having for them right here: https://gleam.io/XpdMS-yx4etD

Update

Wow, it has been quite a long time since I posted here. Anyways, I currently have been working away on quilts (yet another craft for me to fall in love with!) and so far have finished two quilts, almost finished one, and started two more. Here is what i have done so far:

Katy and Dave's quilt (FINISHED):
-pink and brown squares with polka dots and a few geometric blue squares thrown in.

I don't have a finished picture, but here is a picture of it pinned to my bed while I was trying to figure out the layout of the squares.

Spenser's quilt (FINISHED):
-blue and green squares
-flannel back

My Quilt(ALMOST FINISHED):
-using a box of fat quarters that my brother bought for me
-Purl Bee's zig zag quilt.
- pieced back
-waiting for binding to be put on

Senor's Quilt (IN PROGRESS):
-brown with greens and some golds as well.
-fabric cut, waiting to be pieced and quilted

My future (like three or four years away!) child's quilt (IN PROGRESS):
-hand pieced
-all .625 inch sided hexagons
-so much fun!! I have a feeling this will be finished way sooner than planned since it is os much fun I can't put it down and have only been working on it so far.

This is the layout for the hexagon quilt. I am working from the middle to the outside. So far, I have done everything up until the yellow star line.

Pretty Pumpkins and Where Have I Been?

Oh my goodness! It has been forever since I last blogged. So, what have I been up to? Well, I got my sewing machine for my birthday, I also got TONS of yarn and more awesome stuff!! The sad part is that my sewing machine promptly broke on me a week after I received it. : ( So, now i have been waiting to get a new one and finally received an old one, but am waiting for a foot pedal that I ordered. I feel so anxious to quilt. Right now I am working on a quilt for Katy and Dave who got married on October 4th and are still waiting for their quilt. I feel horrible that I haven't gotten it to them yet, but I have it all cut and pinned and it is just waiting to be pieced and quilted. I am super excited about this quilt and loved picking out the fabrics! They requested pink, brown, and polka dots as well as blue and purple if I could get it in there. How awesome is that? I believe that buying things for Katy has made me really start looking at brighter and more vibrant colors in everything. I used to love pastels and darker colors, but now I am really into bright colors. Thank you for that Katy!!

I also started school on Sept 24th and that has been pretty stressful, but fun at the same time. The most stressful part is that the school is about an hour or two (depending on traffic) away and that on tuesdays and thursdays, we have to be there at nine a.m. Spenser and I wake up at 5:30 on those days and we get to school at about 7:30 or 8. I know you are thinking, "why do we leave so early?" Well, whenever we leave later, we end up sitting in more traffic and getting to school just in time. Getting there earlier allows us to not sit in so much traffic and also to get our homework done.

Another stressful thing: Mondays. I hate mondays, but not for the usual reason. I hate them because I hate having to go to my biology lab where I have to sit and listen to the dumbest, most arrogant man on Earth!! This guy is so impressed with himself that he almost seems to think that he is too good to be teaching a lowly biology laboratory. He constantly lectures and quizzes on things not related to the labs at all, while also making you feel like an idiot if you don't understand something that students in a freshman level biology class wouldn't know!! He then tells you that all this information is common sense and that we should just know it. This man gives us a lab to do that he doesn't even know how to do himself, expects us to know how to do it given a very poorly written page of instructions, and then yells at us when we do something even remotely wrong. I walk out of that lab every monday fuming with the way that we have just been treated by this man. But enough about that, on to the fun stuff I have been up to...

Sunday we had family pumpkin painting day which was a blast. I forgot how much painting relieves my stress. I am planning on getting more painting stuff and start painting again (if I can ever find the time). It was very fun sitting down with everyone and creating wonderful pumpkin works of art. I would say that Katy created more than all of us, with a total of three or four small pumpkins and carving a very large pumpkin which smelled delicious! She has a green and white pumpkin that smelled like cucumbers and had gigantic seeds.

Here is a picture of it carved, it reminds me of Meatwad from Aquateen Hunger Force and I believe she named him Harvey or Walter, I can't remember, but he is very cute and squat and happy!

Here is my pumpkin:

Once I get pictures from Senor I will post them. These pictures include Dave's warty pumpkin and Spenser's crazy clown pumpkin.

Union Jack Socks

So, I was looking at another blog that I read that makes fun of pictures people post of themselves on Craigslist and saw a picture of a guy in Union Jack boxers and matching knee socks. Being a knitter, and also being totally obsessed with all things British, I was immediately drawn to these wonderful socks and had to have some!! But when I headed over to ravelry to do a search for a pattern, none could be found.

I want these socks so bad, that I am going to do two things I have never done before:

-create my own pattern

-use intarsia

During my search for more pictures on google, I found this site that tells you exactly how you are supposed to draw the Union Jack: http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/union-jack/union-jack.html I had no idea that the are precise measurements that have to be made. But, I also think that if I am going to do this, I better to it right! So, hopefully, in the months to come, you will begin seeing picture of my progress and a wonderful pattern as well.
